Three paths to the same voting screen.

1

Project a QR pointing to /engage/{scanToken}. Attendees scan, land on the poll.
2

Any session with an active poll shows a red pulsing button on the attendee's personal schedule.

The story behind rolling our own polls tool.

We didn't set out to build a Slido replacement. Our first three conferences ran on Slido. It works. The problem was the seams.

Every attendee had to open a second tab, type an event code, and pick a display name. About one in four never got past that step — the ones who did often lost the tab and stopped voting midway. On the organiser side, we ran two dashboards, exported CSVs from two places, and matched attendee names by hand when we wanted to see who the top askers were. For a 400-person summit, that ate an afternoon.

So in early 2026 we added polls to the same event pass. No second login. Attendee taps their pass, sees the current poll under their session, votes, done. The projector view is a URL you open on the venue laptop and forget. Speakers see the top-upvoted questions on their phone during the panel — no one has to run a mic to the questioner if the top three are already on screen.

Two changes made the biggest difference in the field. First, we cache the poll list on the attendee's device, so a Wi-Fi hiccup doesn't blank the screen mid-vote — the queued vote just flushes when the connection returns. Second, we made "join without signup" a first-class path. If a walk-in attendee scans the QR on the projector, they vote in one tap. No verification email, no captcha, no display name modal.

What you'd spend elsewhere for the same feature.

Real 2026 pricing pulled from vendor sites for a 500-attendee, one-day event in India.

What you actually do to run polls at your next event.

  1. Add sessions to your agenda. Polls attach to sessions, so having the schedule in place first keeps things tidy. If you already use the agenda module, skip this.
  2. Draft polls per session. Pick the type (single, multi, rating, word cloud, open text), write the question, add options. Drafts stay hidden until you click Activate.
  3. Print the projector QR. Grab the /engage link from the session, print a small QR poster for the venue. Also put it in the session detail page for the attendee pass.
  4. Open /present on the venue laptop. That's the projector screen. It auto-refreshes and rotates through active polls every twelve seconds.
  5. Activate the poll when the speaker asks. One tap from the moderation console. Close it when the speaker moves on.
  6. Export results after. CSV export lives on the same session page. You'll have anonymous poll totals and named Q&A (if you kept auth on).

Most first-timers spend around twenty minutes drafting polls the night before. On the day, activating a poll takes under five seconds — usually less time than the speaker takes to say "let's do a quick poll".

Pairs well with these SignupDesk modules.

📅
Polls hang off sessions. Attendees see the right poll based on which room they're in.
📱
Same pass, same login, notifications when a poll goes live.
📊
Poll results roll into the same post-event report so sponsors see engagement signal, not just headcount.

Questions we get

Different from Slido?
Slido is a separate tool at ₹8k-30k per event. Ours uses the same event pass your attendees already have. Nothing new to sign up for.
Can I project the results?
Yes. Fullscreen URL auto-refreshes every 2.5s and cycles active polls every 12s. Top Q&A on the side.
Real-time?
Attendee view: 3.5s. Projector: 2.5s. No manual refresh.
Can I moderate?
Questions default to approved. Hide, pin, or mark answered from the moderation console. Only approved appear on the projector.
