SignupDesk vs Luma: the white-label option for professional organisers
Luma is lovely for community meetups, birthday parties and happy hours. Everything sits under the Luma brand at lu.ma/{slug}. Once you need your client's brand on the URL, or session RSVPs, or printed badges at the door, or a GST invoice at the end — you'll outgrow it. That's when people usually find us.

When to pick us over Luma
- You run events for clients, not for yourself. Each client needs their own brand, their own domain, their own admin login. Luma is one org per account with Luma's logo above it.
- Your event is a real conference. Multi-day agenda, 10+ tracks, a kiosk printing badges, a speaker portal, exhibitor booths. Luma's session support tops out fast.
- Your buyers are in India. UPI, GST invoices, DPDP, INR pricing. Luma is Stripe-only and dollar-first.
- Your CRM needs the data. HubSpot, Zoho and Mailchimp connectors push registrations and check-ins in real time. Luma expects you to export CSVs.
When Luma is the right pick
Community meetups, workshops, dinners, happy hours — anywhere the discovery loop matters more than the branding, Luma's social network genuinely drives RSVPs. Also unbeatable for personal events (birthdays, house parties) where signing a SaaS contract would be silly.
Where Luma actually shines
Luma is genuinely lovely at what it does. Three things they do better than us today.
- Aesthetic that community organisers love. Their event pages look like Apple's marketing site. Type set beautifully, generous whitespace, tasteful photography. Ours are cleaner than they used to be but we haven't reached that bar. If your event brand is "we care about design", Luma feels right.
- Calendar-native flow. RSVP on Luma and the event appears in your Google Calendar or Apple Calendar with the venue pinned, the host's face, and a nudge two hours before. That integration is tight in a way ours isn't.
- Distributed community organiser network. Someone in HSR Layout hosting a Web3 mixer can piggyback on the Luma discovery graph and pull 40 strangers who follow adjacent hosts. That social layer is a real moat for casual-community organisers.
Beautiful for a Sunday brunch or a 50-person AI meetup. Different story for a 900-person conference.
Where SignupDesk pulls ahead for Indian organisers
Luma is built for someone hosting from their kitchen. Once your event has a venue contract, a sponsor deck, five tracks, and a client whose CMO wants their brand on the front page, Luma stops being the right tool.
- Real white-label, not just a header image. Luma's "Plus" tier lets you swap a logo. It still says lu.ma in the URL and Luma at checkout. Ours puts the whole thing on the client's own domain with zero SignupDesk branding anywhere in the attendee journey.
- Multi-track sessions that don't fall over. Luma's session support is a schedule block on the event page. Ours is a full sub-registration flow: session capacity limits, waitlist auto-promotion, per-session QR check-in, personal agenda export. For a 5-track summit, this is the difference between smooth and chaos.
- UPI checkout with GST invoicing. Luma is Stripe-only, dollar-first. A ₹2,500-ticket conference in India through Luma Plus loses roughly ₹115 per ticket in Stripe fees and forex, and hands the buyer a US-format receipt no CFO can file. Ours takes UPI at 0.5% and generates the GSTR invoice per company GSTIN.
- Real ₹ math. Luma Plus at $59/month is ₹59,000 a year, plus roughly ₹1.4 lakh in ticket fees on a 500-attendee ₹2,500 event. Ours is ₹99,000 flat for the year, unlimited events, zero per-ticket fees. On a single 500-person event you save around ₹1 lakh.
The migration story we hear most often from Luma customers
A Mumbai-based venture firm running a portfolio founders' summit twice a year. Around 240 attendees per event, invite-only, no ticket revenue. They'd been on Luma for four events because the partners loved the aesthetic and it was already how they ran their monthly office-hours meetups.
The break point was their fifth summit going bigger: a co-hosted event with a portfolio SaaS company that wanted their own brand on the invite. The client CMO opened the Luma link, saw lu.ma/venturefirm and said "no, this needs to be on our domain, and we don't want your brand ambient." The partner realised Luma had no answer for this. She spent the weekend evaluating alternatives.
They kept Luma for the monthly office-hours (small, casual, Luma is perfect for that) and moved the annual summits to SignupDesk. First two weeks: they wired up summit.venturefirm.in, set up the co-branded event with the portfolio SaaS logo on the header, imported 240 invites from a Google Sheet, generated named VIP passes with each founder's company logo on the badge. The client CMO asked if she could use the same setup for her own product launches. That's now a paying account.
