SignupDesk vs Explara — built for agencies vs built for everyone
Both are Indian event registration platforms. But they are built for fundamentally different customers. Explara is a general-purpose event platform where organizers list and sell tickets to the public. SignupDesk is built specifically for event management agencies and companies who run private events for multiple clients — and need their client's brand front-and-center, not Explara's.

The agency problem with Explara
When you use Explara to run your client's event, every attendee sees Explara — on the registration page, on the QR pass, and in confirmation emails. You are building Explara's brand recognition, not your own or your client's. Every event you run on Explara is, in effect, a marketing exercise for Explara.
For an independent organizer running a public event, this may be acceptable. For an event management agency running a corporate conference for a paying client, it is a fundamental problem. Your client expects a professional, branded experience. What they get is a generic Explara page.
What SignupDesk does differently
SignupDesk gives every client their own domain, their own branded registration portal, and their own admin panel — all at a domain the client controls. Attendees never see the word SignupDesk. The registration page, the QR pass, the confirmation email, the check-in screen — all carry the client's logo and colors. Not ours.
From a business perspective, this means your agency can deliver a premium, professional experience that justifies your fees — without the platform undermining your positioning every step of the way.
The pricing difference
Explara's per-ticket model means costs scale with registrations. A 500-person event at ₹20 per registration costs ₹10,000 in platform fees alone — on top of whatever Explara charges for platform access. Run five such events in a year and you've spent ₹50,000 just in per-ticket fees.
SignupDesk charges a flat platform access fee. Zero per-attendee charges — ever. Run 500 registrations or 5,000, the per-registration cost stays at ₹0. For agencies managing multiple client events through the year, this makes budgeting predictable and margins healthier.
Who should use Explara
Explara is a solid choice for individual event organizers running their own public events — conferences, workshops, or ticketed experiences — where Explara's marketplace discovery is an advantage and platform branding is not a concern. If you're organising events under your own brand and per-ticket fees fit your model, Explara does the job.
Who should use SignupDesk
SignupDesk is the right choice if you are an event management agency or company that runs events for multiple clients, needs your client's brand front-and-center in every attendee interaction, and wants predictable flat pricing with no per-registration surprise charges. If your business model depends on delivering professional, branded event experiences for clients — SignupDesk is built for exactly that.
Where Explara actually shines
Being fair matters. Explara has been in the Indian market for over a decade, and there are things they do well that a newer platform like ours has to work up to.
- India tenure and PSU familiarity. Explara has been running since 2013. That longevity means procurement teams at older PSU units, government departments, and legacy enterprise units recognise the name. When a joint secretary's office says "use the vendor we used last time", that's often Explara. Brand familiarity in slow-moving buyer segments has real value.
- Established support desk. They have a mature phone-and-email support desk that older buyers who still prefer calling over Slack find comfortable. Ours is fast on chat but we don't yet have a 24x7 phone line for enterprise contracts.
- Public marketplace pulls organic RSVPs. Explara.com/events is a real listing page that some retail buyers browse. If you're running a public paid workshop and you want a bit of platform-driven discovery on top of your own marketing, that channel exists.
If your event is a public paid workshop and your buyer is comfortable with a legacy tool, Explara is fine. If you're an agency running white-label events for corporate clients, keep reading.
Where SignupDesk pulls ahead for Indian organisers
Explara's architecture is built around one organiser running their own events under the Explara brand. Agencies running events for multiple clients live in a fundamentally different world, and the mismatch shows up in every attendee touchpoint.
- Real white-label, not just a colour swap. Explara puts your event on a URL that reads explara.com/e/eventname with "Powered by Explara" in the footer of the ticket. Ours puts the whole thing on register.clientname.in with zero SignupDesk branding anywhere in the attendee journey. For an agency pitching itself as the client's tech partner, that difference is existential.
- UPI intent checkout, not a redirect. Explara routes through a standard payment gateway with card forms as the default. Ours opens GPay directly from the buyer's phone. On a paid conference of 800 delegates at ₹2,000 apiece, the conversion lift from 62% to 84% is worth roughly ₹3.5 lakh in additional ticket revenue per event.
- GST invoice per company GSTIN, auto-mailed. Explara emits a receipt from Explara's own entity. Half your paid B2B tickets need an invoice against the buyer's company GSTIN. Ours captures that field on the form and generates a compliant PDF the moment payment clears.
- Real ₹ math. An agency running twelve events a year through Explara pays roughly 4.5% per ticket plus platform fees. On a ₹40 lakh gross ticket revenue year, that's around ₹1.8 lakh gone to Explara before you count platform charges. Our flat platform fee for the whole agency operation is ₹1.6 lakh, one bill, unlimited events, zero per-ticket cuts.
The migration story we hear most often from Explara customers
A Chennai-based event agency running annual industry summits for three trade associations. Around 600 attendees per summit, ₹3,000 ticket, three events a year. They'd been on Explara since 2018 because that's what the founder was familiar with from her days in-house at a PSU.
The break point was a new client, a mid-tier IT services firm running their first customer summit. The CMO opened the Explara link, saw explara.com/e/companyname in the URL bar, and said "this looks like you outsourced our event to a random vendor. Can we get our own domain?" The agency owner checked Explara's answer, saw no clean way to do it, and started looking.
They kept Explara for one legacy client that specifically requested it and moved everything else to SignupDesk in eight weeks. First two weeks: they wired up three separate client domains from a single agency dashboard, imported historical attendee data from Explara CSVs, set up per-client Razorpay accounts so ticket money flowed directly to each trade association's bank, and generated GST invoices from each association's own entity. The IT services CMO signed a three-year retainer after seeing the first event live.
