Six workflows you won't find on Eventbrite.
- Prasad token distribution. Every attendee gets a prasad. You need to count exactly - shortage causes distress, surplus wastes food. Registration count = prasad count, printed on the pass.
- Seva volunteer coordination. Different from attendees. Sevaks sign up for shifts, roles (kitchen, security, ushering, cleaning). Attendance tracked separately.
- VIP darshan slots. Limited premium slots (early morning aarti, one-on-one blessing). Sold or comped, always time-banded.
- Multi-language. Older devotees prefer Hindi, Tamil, Marathi over English. Forms, SMS, WhatsApp templates all in the local language.
- Cash-heavy. UPI is growing but many devotees still prefer cash dakshina. Both must reconcile cleanly.
- Muhurat-sensitive scheduling. Events start at auspicious times (4:30 AM, 11:48 AM). System doesn't argue with muhurat.

Bhagwat Kathaa / Ram Kathaa (7-day series). Daily registrations, cumulative prasad plans, VIP row for donors. Live streaming registrations tracked separately.
Satsang (weekly). Regular attendees register once, get a permanent QR pass. Weekly attendance auto-tracked. Missed sessions trigger a gentle "we missed you" WhatsApp.
Utsavs (annual festivals - Janmashtami, Navratri, Guru Purnima). Multi-day, multi-slot. Kolam competition entries, cultural performance signups, procession volunteer coordination.
Marriage muhurat halls (mandap bookings). Slot-based venue reservation. Auspicious dates auto-highlighted. Pandit assignment tracked. Priest honorarium logged.
Yatra / pilgrimage (Chardham, Amarnath, Kailash Mansarovar type groups). Batch coordination, medical certificate uploads, aadhar verification, insurance opt-in.
The exemption, and when it doesn't apply.
Under Serial 13 of Notification 12/2017 (Central GST), services by a charitable trust registered under Section 12A/12AB of the Income Tax Act, in relation to the following activities, are GST-exempt:
- Renunciation of a religious ceremony (conduct of religious ceremonies).
- Public worship, subject to entry charge not exceeding ₹1,000 per person.
- Yoga instruction (specific to registered charitable yoga trusts).
When exemption doesn't apply:
- Entry charge above ₹1,000 per head - 18% GST kicks in on the full amount, not just excess.
- Premium services (VIP darshan slot priced ₹2,000+) - individually assessed, usually 18%.
- Non-religious ancillary services (food catering as separate service, accommodation as separate service) - taxable at their own rates.
- Donations disguised as compulsory entry fees - GSTN scrutiny has flagged this pattern.
Practical advice: keep entry fees at ₹51, ₹101, ₹501 or free. Move any commercial services to a separate booking flow with proper GST.
Because devotees in their 70s aren't downloading apps.
Half your audience at a satsang is above 55. Many don't have smartphones. Some have phones but not WhatsApp. A few have WhatsApp but never open unknown numbers. Design for this.
Our three-path elderly flow:
- Sevak-assisted online. Elderly devotee gives name + phone to a volunteer, who registers on their behalf. Confirmation SMS goes to the devotee's phone. QR pass mailed to the address if they lack a phone entirely.
- Printed paper registration. At the venue gate. Volunteer takes the form, enters into the system, prints a QR pass on the spot. Attendee walks in, no smartphone touched.
- Family member registers. Adult child registers their parents via a group registration flow. Each parent gets their own QR, but everything managed from one login.
Print outputs use large fonts (18pt minimum), high contrast, no reliance on colour to convey meaning. Prasad tokens print with the devotee's name in their preferred language so pick-up is smooth.
